Noorjahan Emerald Collar

The one piece in the house made to the old proportions — a wide marquise collar in yellow gold with emerald cabochons through the centre and a single emerald drop below. It is a wedding necklace and it is meant to survive being one: the back is articulated at every third link so it will still sit flat on a different collarbone in thirty years.

Emerald is softer than diamond and is cut with its inclusions rather than against them, so it dislikes heat, ultrasonic baths and solvents — including the alcohol in most perfume. Clean it with a soft brush, warm water and nothing else.

Platinum does not tarnish. It moves: over years the surface gathers a fine matte patina, which is the metal displacing rather than wearing away, and which a polisher can return to a mirror whenever you would rather have one.
